With the focus on 18x DVD writers in the Taiwan market, 16x DVD writers' retail pricing has already fallen to just under NT$1,000 (~US$31) according to this DigiTimes report. Lite-On IT mentioned that increasing competition with the global leading optical drive makers tend to push down OEM quotes for DVD writers. The manufacturer expects this to continue until the level of demand for HD DVD and Blu-ray writers reaches a certain point.
When it comes to 18x writers, these are typically going for NT$1,500 (~US$45) on the Taiwan market, however, BenQ has relectly launched an 18x DVD writer retailing at NT$1,249 (~US$39) on the Taiwan market.
