DVD+RW Alliance releases Video Format 2.0 specifications

Philips licensing reports that the DVD+RW Alliance has released the specifications
for the Video Format 2.0. These specifications should be describing the second
generation DVD+RW Video discs, that provide the same level of playback
compatibility with existing DVD-Video players as first generation discs while
adding the following features:

Version 2.0

  • Flexible starting point for video
recording, allowing for more space for the menus

  • Flexible number of navigation commands for
Titles, allowing for more complex navigation systems
  • Prepared for content protection
    systems

This DVD+RW Video Format Specification version 2.0
is designed in such a way, that new recorders can upgrade discs containing
version 1.x video material to version 2.0 and start using (some of) the new
features.Recorders supporting Video Format version 1.x may refuse adding content
to a disc, which has been recorded already on a DVD+RW recorder supporting the
version 2.0 of this standard. In general, recorders should never modify or
append to DVD+RW discs containing Video Format material with a higher version
number than they are designed for.
