Everybody owns a few books, some even have dozens brought together on a few shelves. The same is what we are currently seeing with DVDs, many have a still growing diversity of movies... And why? We like to collect.
With the high definition war being in its ending days (other discussion) many will start enjoying HD movies on their brand-new plasma screen. While everybody watches the change from DVD to Blu-ray and HD DVD, many forget that Video on Demand is growing its potential too.
Comcast thinks they can pull it off. The company says that they can make it possible for you to download a two-and-a-half-hour film in less than four minutes. With this being their main selling point, nobody says that you won't own it. We as human beings will not be able to collect, and trendwatchers say that this will make the end of the DVD 'loud'.
Personally I think HD DVDs and Blu-ray discs will sell because they are as collectable as books. If Comcast wants to sell Video on Demand than they should sell it as a movie theater, not as a product to keep.
