DVDxCopy hearing postponed, 321 Studios has to wait for new date

321 Studios, the developers of DVDxCopy are
currently in a lawsuit with several major Hollywood studios and should have
been in a hearing today (Friday). However, the case has been postponed to an
unknown date.

The
hearing was to have been held in U.S. District Court for the Northern
District of California in San Francisco, said 321 Studios, the St.
Louis-based maker of DVD Copy Plus and DVD X Copy software. An official
with the Motion Picture Association of America, which represents the
studios, said a new hearing date has yet to be set.

The studios want the court to bar 321 from
selling the software because they claim it is used to circumvent
encryption technology in DVDs and, as a result, violates copyright law.
321 argues that because the software is aimed only at personal uses such
as making backup copies in case a DVD gets damaged, it falls under "fair
use" provisions of the
law.

There has been no reason given why the hearing has been postponed. You
