The DaTARIUS Group,
experts in quality control for optical disc manufacture, have provided a
solution for today's blank media manufacturer. Officially released during the
Media-Tech Expo (13-15 May 2003 Las Vegas, USA), the DVD±RW Analyzer is the only
DVD recordable/rewritable analyzer available on the market that supports all
formats.
'Our research, and
discussions with customers, indicates that all formats will have their own
applications," says James Steynor, DaTARIUS Chairman and CEO. 'While every
indication is that the trend is likely to follow that of the CD format, where
CD-R is more dominant than CD-RW, there are signs that a rewritable DVD format
will also be manufactured and used in reasonable quantities. In addition, now
that consumer drive manufacturers are beginning to release players capable of
playing plus and minus formats, it was a logical step for us to make comparable
systems for quality control."
Based on a reference
pick-up drive from Sony Precision Technology, the DVD±RW Analyzer tests a wide
range of signals on blank and written media. It measures DVD-R/+R and DVD-RW/+RW
according to the DVD Forum and Philips specifications.
The DVD±RW Analyzer,
available in desktop format, is operated by the DaTARIUS CS4-WIN software
platform. It can fit into any existing DaTARIUS system and can perform
measurements in combination with any DaTARIUS DVD measuring
system.
'The flexibility and
universality of this analyzer makes it a strategic choice for all laboratories
and quality control departments," says Thomas Hackl, CCO DaTARIUS Group. 'Users
have the ability to analyze all formats in one unit, and with the same platform
(multi-language, strong data export tools) as traditional CD and DVD measuring
equipment. The factors all combine to make the set-up and manufacturing process
for blank DVD media a very smooth one."
The analyzer does
not itself include a write feature. A separate writer is
available.
"We don't consider
the option write and measure in one system as favourable: the writing process
has a very negative influence on the quality of measurement along with the
lifetime of the laser and the optics," says Alexander Haid, product manager for
recordable media, DaTARIUS Group.
