PTInews.com reports that Israelian authorities have confiscated over 40,000 DVD
players that were according to the authorities dangerous. This due to the fact
that the DVD players would send out excessive levels of radiation.
According to the website this could result in malfunction of pacemakers.

The recent seizures were made during examination of three shipments. "Initially, the importer sent the Standards Institution of Israel a sample DVD player that withstood the tests," Yaakov Ventel, Director of the Standards Institution of Israel's Industry Department reportedly said. But examination of the actual shipment revealed, according to Ventel, that the Chinese manufacturer removed essential components from the appliances, without the importer's knowledge. |
If this is true that would probably mean that there are
many other countries to which these DVD players have been shipped. We all know
the Chinese DVD players, usually because of their cheesy names and cheap price.
