Direct connect, a new filesharing program

CDRWizard submitted something really nice today. We all know the popular sharing programs like Kazaa and WinMX. Now guess what: another program like that has been released. It's called: Direct Connect, made by Neo-modus.

What is so special about this product? Besides the fact that it uses a peer-to-peer networking structure (which makes it impossible to be shut down since there are no central servers or whatsoever) it should provide in enourmos amounts of shared data (movies, mp3s, software, games etc etc). Since you have to share a couple of GB's before you can get on, the amount of shared data must be quite big (depeding on the amount of users ofcourse!).

Tired of other file-sharing communities such as Napster, Gnutella, and Scour? Tired of Napster Clones in general? Looking for something new? Get ready to change the way you think about peer-to-peer file-sharing. NeoModus®' Direct Connect™ offers a complete set of tools to locate any type of media.

Unlike other impersonal, server-driven file-sharing networks, Direct Connect offers a community-oriented, open, user-controlled network. Moreover, Direct Connect's network architecture is built on a peer-to-peer foundation; users run, control, and maintain the network. Users are able to share any type of file - absolutely no restrictions. These files are easily viewed through a familiar organized windows-explorer interface. To conveniently access the plethora of files, advanced searching capabilities and filters are provided. All of these features are integrated into Direct Connect's unique communal file-sharing system.

Conviced? You can download Direct connect right here.

What I think of this program? Right now, nothing at all. Since I can't test it right now (because I'm not @home) I can't tell you anything about search results, availability of data and downloading speeds. What I can say is that I somewhere like the idea of demanding to share quite a lot of data in order to get on because this garantuees a lot of free stuff .

Just one bad thing about it: newbies in the file-sharing scene without any or much sharable data can't get on (they'll have to get some stuff elsewhere first...). Also poeple who want to use this program @school/university/work etc will have a hard time since almost nobody got 3GB's of sharable data there....
