Another company goes to Taiwan, and this time it is
DivXNetworks. It seems like more and more companies are going into joint
ventures with Taiwanese or South Korean companies to exchange technology and
outsource production. DivXNetworks will together with Taiwan's Industrial
Technology Research Institute (ITRI) create a research and development
lab.
Under
the agreement, ITRI's Computer and Communications Research Labs (CCL) will
create a development and testing lab in Taiwan for DivX Certified consumer
electronics devices, including portable video players, DVD players,
digital still and video cameras and set-top boxes (STBs) that are
scheduled to debut in 2003, according to the DivX press
statement.
The press release said DivXNetworks
and ITRI will also jointly develop reference designs for DivX Certified
portable video players for the global consumer electronics market. They
will also collaborate on R&D for next-generation digital video
technology,
'Taiwan is the center for
new-generation CE product innovation and development. ITRI is the
birthplace of all the star industries in Taiwan, including IC, IT,
communications and now new-generation digital CE," said James Lee, special
advisor for Asia at
DivXNetworks. |
