ESS announces first Nero Digital certified DVD chip solution

Exciting news for Ahead as ESS Technologies one of the larger DVD chipset manufacturers has announced it will add support for Nero Digital to its chip. Nero Digital is developed by Ahead, the developers of Nero and should be competing with DivX and likes. Just like DivX Networks also Ahead offers a certification program and ESS is the first major chip manufacturer who has announced it is Nero Digital Certified.

Nero
Digital files can be made with Nero Recode and has gained popularity by being a
fast encoder while giving good quality output. Both a video and an audio (AAC) solution are available. Nero Digital is compatible with the MPEG-4 standard and is for now the only implementation of MPEG-4 that has both MPEG-4 video and MPEG-4 audio (AAC - which is the follow up of MP3) onboard. Nero Digital already has a huge installed user base as the software is part of the Nero 6 suite.

Nero Digital is the result of extensive co-development efforts by Ahead Software Inc., makers of the popular Nero(TM) CD/DVD burning application software, and Ateme of France, one of the world's leaders in video and signal
processing. Nero Digital is the first complete MPEG-4 solution offering high quality MPEG-4 video coupled with high fidelity MPEG-4 AAC audio. Nero Digital is currently the only MPEG-4 solution capable of providing chapter markers,
subtitle and multi-language soundtrack support.

Nero Digital, the world's fastest MPEG-4 encoder, is bundled in the award winning digital media solution, Nero 6, and is used by leaders in digital media technology worldwide. Due to its unsurpassed quality and worldwide
recognition, several third party software vendors are currently working on supporting Nero Digital.

ESS chips can be found in e.g. Denon, LG, JVC and Samsung DVD players. The chips are also certified by DivX Networks and thus playback DivX files aswell. Discuss this in our Stand Alone Devices & Home Entertainment Forum
