The name Emmet Plant might not be known to all
of you, but he is very well known in the open source community. He called
himself the CEO of the foundation that was behind e.g Ogg Vorbis, and some other
open source multimedia related projects. While he always called himself CEO
and seemed to be the main man of Xiph, he has received the message from the
foundation board that he should find himself a new job. Reason for this: a
personality conflict. Something that might not be suprising, as Emmet's
communication skills weren't always all that.
Effective really-soon-now, I'll be stepping down as the CEO of
the Xiph.org Foundation. It's not a decision I chose to make; It was made
for me. The board of directors at Xiph have cited a 'personality
conflict,' and I'm being pushed out. I've known for about a week now, and
it's still sinking in.
There have been communications problems from
the very beginning with the board of Xiph. They asked for reports, and I
handed them over. I kept hearing nothing from them, so I eventually just
stopped sending them. This was a little less than a year ago. I felt that
my time was better spent actually doing work than it was to write up
reports for a board that didn't appear to give a damn. The board has
admitted that I am not completely responsible for the communications
breakdown, that they don't hold themselves blameless. I suppose it's their
collective guilt at being inactive and acting disinterested that they
chose to let me go

According to Emmet it is certainly not his fault, and he
writes on his weblog that he has already been kicked out several times before,
we would say, that makes you think, but it doesn't make Emmet think. But to he
honest, Emmet has done a lot of work on Xiph and he should be honoured for that.
