Epson announced the availability of a new USB 2.0 High-Speed controller LSI capable of operating two USB ports simultaneously.
The newly developed S1R72V18 takes advantage of the low power consumption of the S1R72V Series and enables isochronous transfer which is used when connecting to portable music players. In addition, the new model comes equipped with two high-speed USB 2.0 ports: one shared port for both device and host functions and one port exclusively for host functions.
The S1R72V18 is the first model in the series to be capable of operating two USB ports simultaneously. The main target application for this model is car navigation systems for which multiple ports are becoming increasingly common. Consequently, the S2R72V18, which is now under development, will feature a guaranteed operating temperature range of -40°C to 105°C, and is expected to meet the specifications for the AEC-100 industry standard for automobile electronics quality.
