With still 12 months to go before US television broadcasters switch from analog to digital, 13 million households have one or two TVs unready for digital conversion. Nielsen's research shows that the majority of these households are latino.
Based on their data Nielsen announces that 26.2% of the Latino community have at least one TV that's unable to receive digital signals, including 17.3% being completely unprepared. The African-American community follows with 19.5% owning only one non-digital TV, including 12.4% just having analog sets. The Asian community isn't prepared either, with 18.8% of the households having at least one non-digital TV, including 11.7% not being digital-ready.
The study concludes with the following: 10.1% of all US households would be unprepared if the conversion would be today. The federal government is now trying to help these households by offering $40 coupons to support them with acquiring a digital converter box.
We are curious how this will develop, and if the government's support will help with acquiring a 100% coverage.
