Film studios unite to beat piracy

Northwave used
our
news submit to
inform us about this latest fusion to fight against piracy. This time BBC reports
that six major
Hollywood studios
have formed a joint venture to protect their movies from the thread of
electronic theft. The Motion Picture Laboratories, also called Movielabs, should
research ways to protect their content from illegal distribution via the
internet. The organisation should also find solutions against illegal recording
in the cinemas and develop tools to detect illegal content sharing in
p2p-networks.

There are thousands of new concepts floating around the hi-tech
community about how to develop tools to fight piracy," said Glickman.

"Researching
and developing these technologies now will help save the major studios and
other motion picture producers and distributors money in the future."

Do they
really think that they can stop file-sharing? Instead of wasting millions of
Dollars into the development of such new technologies, I would suggest to shut
down their greed for profit and to make the movies cheaper. This is for me a
much more powerful weapon to reduce sharing of illegal
content.
