Firestreamer allows NTBackup to access DVD burner directly

Firestreamer-DVD is a software that allows you to use the OS integrated Windows Backup Utility (NTBackup) to back up and restore your files and folders to and from DVD media. The website claims that it's software works with all features of the Backup Utility, including data compression, media spanning and Windows Automated System Recovery. The program supports DVD-RAM,(!) DVD+R, DVD+R DL (Dual Layer) and DVD+RW media, and runs on Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server. Firestreamer-DVD is compatible with Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 and 2003 Backup.

Any windows, dialog boxes, icons, pop-ups and other user
