GristyMcFisty used our news submit to report to us that Foxconn has become an OEM maker of otpical disk drives (ODD) for BTC (Behavior Tech Computer). Foxconn is one of the global leading manufacturers for connectors, cables and PC enclosures. They entered the ODD production buisness five years ago, when they invested in Pan International Industrial. This year Foxconn purchased the pick-up head production lines from the Thompson Group in China.
Behavior Tech Computers better known as BTC, started in 1982 with keyboards and now produces mainly optical drives (DVD+/-RW, CD-RW, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM), keyboards, mouse and digital cameras. With innovations like DVD+/-RW combined with a 7 in 1 card reader and it's low price politics, BTC has become one of the top ten drive manufacturers in the world, but suffered from high costs for main components, BTC had to search for an alternative. Now on October 8, both companies signed a letter of intent and Foxconn will produce OEM ODD's for BTC in the future. The high manufacturing capabilities and pickup heads production from Foxconn are maybe a good alternative for BTC.

The partnership will integrate Foxconn's large-scale manufacturing capabilities with BTC's ODD marketing and technology expertise, according to the two companies. Foxconn entered the ODD production business about five years ago, when it invested in Pan International Industrial, a Taiwan ODD maker, and began recruiting staff for research and development. In March of this year, the company purchased the Thomson Group's pick-up heads (PUHs) production lines in China.
In related news, Foxconn had record monthly revenues of NT$ 41.106 billion for September, a 12.8% rise sequentially and 12.4% on year. The company's revenues for January-September stood at NT$ 276.622 billion, a year-on-year increase of 25.70%. |
