Free and legal Norwegian music on the web

The Norwegian TONO, which can be compared to the RIAA, is celebrating its 75th birthday. Therefore, about 50.000 songs can be downloaded on their Musikkonline service.

"Free music download is in many cases an experiment" states TONO-manager Cato Stroem in the norwegian newspaper Aftenposten. "We want to be generous and simultaneously show legal ways of distributing music".

The announcement in norwegian newspapers resulted in an overload of the music service. Within 2 hours, 85.000 downloads were started by friends of norwegian music

A legal way of downloading free music, that's what many people have been waiting for a long time. But probably many users from other countries won't be interested in Norwegian music, but why not give it a try?

I guess the RIAA or similar organisations in other countries should provide similar services. Maybe then, people would be willing to pay for music downloads-if they can be downloaded for reasonable prices.
