Fujifilm develops material that allows 16x DVD-R recording

Liggy reports us that the German website testticker has posted an interesting news item in which they say that Fujufilm has developed new material for DVD-R media that allows 16x recording speeds. In order to write the discs a temperature of only 210 °C is needed instead of 330 °C that's normally needed:

In order to prevent unwanted deformations, a higher recording speed was previously not possible. With the new material this problem has been overcome. Fujifilm indicates that the material permits a recording rate of 177Mbps (meaning a rate of 56 meters per second). This means sixteen-speed recording.

A two-hour motion picture film could be recorded in five minutes to the medium. Fujifilm wants to offer the first 16x-DVD-R media at the beginning of the next fiscal year.

I could not find any more information on the new DVD-R media on the Fujifilm website. If we do find out more information we'll of course let you know. For now, please use our Media Forum to discuss CD and DVD recordable media.
