Fujitsu announces neutrality in blue laser war at CeBIT

Now we have
another manufacturer that has decided to support both
formats.
The blue laser format war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD is just too
uncertain at this point for some to pick sides.

Fujitsu-Siemens announced at CeBIT that it would not choose a
side in the HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray next-gen-DVD showdown. "We don't take a
stand in that fight, and actually we're very sorry that fight is
happening," Senior Director of Digital Home Division Bjorn Sehrm told
Reuters.

Fujitsu's move comes only days after LG announced
it was pulling out of exclusive Blu-ray support in favor of a neutral
stance. While both announcements hurt the Sony-led Blu-ray camp more than
the Toshiba
backed HD-DVD format, neither company is likely
to be happy that less-invested manufacturers are hedging bets and pledging
neutrality.

With more manufacturers jumping on the dual format
bandwagon, we have to wonder if others are going to have to follow suit! Who in
their right mind would by a player now that is not capable of playing either
format? Or, we can look at it as another division in the war, those that are
selling these so called "ultra-multi" drives, have created yet another
category.
