Japanese company Funai Electric will begin selling DVD players and recorders to North American consumers under the Royal Philips name.
Funai will now be responsible for selling Blu-ray players, DVD recorders, DVD players, home theater equipment, and flat-panel TVs with the Philips logo.
The new sales move will reportedly begin next month in late January.
Funai's stock also rose to its highest level in 10 weeks after the announcement was published. In the future, this will help boost Funai sales in North America by around $332 million, as the Philips brand name remains strong.
It seems more and more like if you're purchasing a product with a Philips label in North America, that it's really a Funai created technology. Wal-Mart is the largest Philips retailer, with Best Buy, Fry's Electronics and other stores also stocking Philips' products on shelves.
