Whether you love it or hate it, the Apple iPhone has helped cause a revolution in mobile software development, many industry experts agree. During the Game Developer Conference, which is underway in San Francisco, California, mobile gaming is expected to be one of the most popular topics throughout the week, as more developers enter the mobile gaming space.
During the opening keynote by former EA exec Neil Young -- who quit the company to start a new iPhone game development company --- said the Apple phone is as "important a moment in the game industry as the introduction of the VCS, or the NES, or the Game Boy, or Xbox Live, or massively multiplayer games."
He also said "our love affair with the iPhone began by simply touching it," and, "This was rapidly becoming the most important device I had ever owned."
Furthermore, video games for the Nintendo DS and Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld consoles will also be shown off over the next four days. I own both a PSP and DS and have noticed how the quality of video games have increased, and will likely continue to improve as more game manufacturers begin to create software games.
It can also be expected to see a higher number of games designed for mobile phones, with more owners interested in playing them, though the transition to higher-quality games will not happen overnight.
Do you play games on your mobile phone? How do you like it? If not, why don't you play mobile games?
