This time Heise reports about
an enormous sales decrease for 2003. The association of phonographic companies
IFPI sees the responsibility mainly in masses of CD copies and the current
recession.
 Sales of
audio media decreased by about 18% to 183 million pieces. Especially
sales of singles decreased due to illegal music offers on the
Internet. Further current Top-CDs and Hit collection CDs were
affected, they are being copied most. The number of CD recordables used
for music recording increased according to the current "burner study"
of the GFK (Gesellschaft fé¼r Konsumforschung - they do some market
analysis for different kinds of media). Contrary to this, the sales of
music DVDs doubled from four to eight million pieces.
According to IFPI who rely on values from the GFK,
last year 21.4 million users recorded music on 325 million recordables,
which is a rise of 26% from the 259 millionn pieces previous year. 602
million songs were received from illegal Internet sources. One year before
they had 622 million. |

mention illegal internet downloads, without offering usable legal alternatives.
