This multilingual program is a transcoder for various sound formats like MP3, MP2, Real Audio, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, ALF2CD, DSP, GSM, G.721, G.723, G.726, RAW, PCM, ADPCM, uLaw, aLaw, MPC, and Monkeys Audio. The encoder has a transformer for some transforming features, an Audio Recorder for recording from all input sources to mp3, mp2, pcm, adpcm, wma and ogg-vorbis. You can also split large MP3 files with thier CUE sheets into songs. I also see on the Germanix page that there is support now for FLAC, from the flac.sourceforge.net site if you don't know what it is (I didn't):
| FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. Grossly oversimplified, FLAC is similar to MP3, but lossless, meaning that audio is compressed in FLAC without throwing away any information. This is similar to how Zip works, except with FLAC you will get much better compression because it is designed specifically for audio, and you can play back compressed FLAC files in your favorite player (or your car or home stereo, see links to the right for supported devices) just like you would an MP3 file. FLAC is freely available and supported on most operating systems, including Windows, "unix" (Linux, *BSD, Solaris, OS X, IRIX), BeOS, OS/2, and Amiga. There are build systems for autotools, MSVC, Watcom C, and Project Builder. See the features page for a complete list of features, or the comparison page to see how FLAC compares with other lossless codecs. The FLAC project consists of:
When we say that FLAC is "Free" it means more than just that it is available at no cost. It means that the specification of the format is fully open to the public to be used for any purpose (the FLAC project reserves the right to set the FLAC specification and certify compliance), and that neither the FLAC format nor any of the implemented encoding/decoding methods are covered by any known patent. It also means that all the source code is available under open-source licenses. It is the first truly open and free lossless audio format |
I slipped a small screenshot of the GermaniXEncoder program into the above quote about FLAC. It looks good full size. We can also see on the GermaniXEncoder page , that there is a Beta audio cd writing plug-in and a video plug-in. To obtain any of these items you must register and then visit the download forum. I do not have any experience with these products so who knows? But, I will try it and decided to pass it on to those of us that may be interested. The main program is large at 20.5 megs and the burning plug-in is 678k but they downloaded at 200kb/sec if you have the bandwidth. It includes all the codecs.
