Gigabyte promotes 'G-MAX' brand for Lite-On manufactured optical drives

Last week we already announced that motherboard manufacturer Gigabyte would enter the optical drive market. Today we can find more information on this, on the DigiTimes website.Gigabyte will promote their new products under the 'G-MAX ' brand and will outsource the production of their optical drives to the Lite-On Group:

Gigabyte Technology has decided to mark 2003 as its brand promotion year, highlighting the 'G-MAX" brand for its new system products in addition to its 'Gigabyte" brand for motherboards and graphics cards, company executive vice president Richard Ma said on June 10 at a product launch conference.

When asked about the increasing cost pressure Gigabyte faces in developing mature system products, Ma said that Gigabyte has responded to the problem by outsourcing production. Gigabyte's optical drives are manufactured by Lite-On Group while its notebooks are designed by Intel and produced by First International Computer (FIC).
