Taiwan-based Industrial Technology Information Service (ITIS) has projected that global demand for DVD recordable devices will grow to 11.75 million units this year, an increase of 91.4% compared to 2002:
CD-RW drives will remain the preferred optical storage recording device, said ITIS analyst Shin-Yi Huang, citing their more affordable prices resulting from mature technologies. |
Read-only drives, however, are projected to see a slight decline in demand, shipping only 108.5 million units compared with 110.5 million units in 2002.
According to the graph in the article combo drives (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) shipments will also increase dramatically this year, with a 60% increase.
