Gnutella evolves: Gnucleus now also Ultrapeer support

Zeropaid is reporting that Gnucleus has released a new beta version that has support for a new Gnutella network structure. Gnutella has learned from the much more effective structure used by FastTrack (KaZaA, Grokster) to handle searche queries and network traffic, using so called Ultrapeer nodes.

The FastTrack network would call this Supernodes and these are mainly PC's with strong CPU's and lots of RAM together with highspeed connections. Gnucleus already earlier released a version that supported Ultrapeers, but this new (Beta) version seems to be more effective:

Changelog Gnucleus 1.8 Beta

  • Entirely new supernode (ultrapeer) system
  • Ultrapeer system standardized and compatible with LimeWire and BearShare
  • Shared files now searched through on a lookup table
  • Fixed bug in searching through supernodes
  • Fixed right-click extended info bug
  • Fixed bug in pong-caching

Gnucleus and Gnutella have improved a lot lately and I've tried it myself. My conclusion is that it's still not as good as the FastTrack network but it's certainly worth to keep an eye on.

Find more information on the Gnucleus website, also note that the software is ad and spyware free !
