Greek and British Police break illegal software ring

GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us that a joint effort between both Greek and British police has broken a multi million dollar illegal software sales ring. Two people were arrested, a Greek citizen and Briton along with thousands of pirate high tech software programs were seized. Both men had been selling a very expensive computer program for the car and aeronautical industry and were only charging about 700 Euros for it.

The program was made by a multi-national company that lost around $360 million because of the pirate's illegal distribution of the program. The company was not named, but the police did say that the men were selling the illegal software via the internet.

Police in Athens found dozens of copies of the program as well as 7000 cds containing almost every piece of software on the market at the rings premesis. Officers confiscated documents, bank account details, orders, computer along and three hard drives.

ATHENS (Reuters) - Greek and British police in a joint Legal operation cracked a multi-million illegal software sales ring, arresting two people and seizing thousands of pirate high-tech software programs, Greek police said on Friday. They said they had arrested a Greek citizen and a Briton who pirated and sold an expensive computer software program for the car and aeronautic industry, charging only about 700 euros.

"The copyrights to the program belong to a multinational software development company that lost $360 million because of the illegal distribution," police officials said in a statement. They did not name the company involved but said the man and his British accomplice in London were selling the program to buyers through the Internet. Police in Athens also found dozens of copies of the software as well as 7,000 CDs containing "every kind of program on the world market." Officers also confiscated documents of bank accounts, orders, a computer and three hard drives.

I wonder if the police will be chasing up the buyers of the software now that they have the order details?
