Grokster launches paid service for content owners

Grokster has announced tools that should give record labels, artists and other content owners of digital media the ability to target their products to Grokster owners.

Grokster is using the FastTrack network (KaZaA) to distribute the files and has teamed up with J!VE Media, that has developed the digital rights technology:

Through the Grokster/FileFreedom partnership content owners will now have the ability to harness and monetize the power of P2P distribution. A copyright owner enters the Grokster community, registers his content for as little as $10, and through a simple set of online wizards, builds a profile (or a multiple of profiles) based upon age, gender, postal code and user tastes, and target markets his content directly to those users.

The registered authorized content, graphic, marketing message, web link, or rich media is "pushed" through to users via their Grokster/FileFreedom home page and/or at the point of download. The content owner is provided with real time data charting his campaign.

Grokster also works together with the company FileFreedom that should enable users to get file ratings, reviews, recommendations, most popular lists, intant messengers, playlist sharing, but is badly rated by users on Cnet and seems to be spyware.
