The latest announcements in this competition for the dominance in the next generation optical storage technologies, made us believe that there was no chance for the companies behind the next generation standards to reach an agreement over a unified next generation format.
Today we can report that there are still efforts from the two competing camps to reach an agreement and that there is still hope for the customer to see only one high definition format in the future. Two high executives, Tadashi Okamura the president of Toshiba and Ken Kutargai from Sony, both have indicated that it isn't too late to reach an agreement.

For his part, Ken Kutargai, a Sony executive largely credited with the success of the PlayStation gaming console, went on record saying that there still is time to reach agreement before hardware comes out, but that window is perhaps only a couple of weeks long. |
Nobody knows how this will turn out and I don't think that we will see an end of this story in the near future. However, we will keep you updated. Just visit CD Freaks from time to time to read the latest news on this topic.
