HDTV: How to choose the right one?

In these days there are many news stories about next generation optical media, burners, standalone players and new titles made available for both Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats.

But, there is another factor that must be considered to enjoy both new video formats, i.e. the television: Without the correct screen, it is not possible to fully appreciate all the new wonders of hi definition video titles.

So the very first thing you should look for, whether you're in a store or browsing online, is the 'HD ready' logo.
This applies specifically to Europe. EICTA introduced this label to help consumers clearly identify which TVs meet the minimum requirements of the HD Ready specification.

...

TVs that carry the HD ready logo must have either an HDMI connection, or a DVI connect that is HDCP compliant. HDCP stands for High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection.

...

HD ready TVs must also have some form of analogue input, such a component. This means that the TV is suited to the connections commonly used today, and is ready for the connections that will be used in the years to come.

There are already some screens fully compliant with next gen video formats, but how do you know if the television that you are to buying is the right one?

PS3 Land has made available the first part of a review the can give the consumer a better idea of what to buy. The review can be read here.
