HDTV (high definition television) the next generation television will probably reach 7 percent of the European homes by 2009 and almost 17 percent of all sold TVs will be HDTVs, says IMS (Intex Management Services Ltd.) a British marker research company.
Ian Weightman, senior vice president at IMS, has stated that the likelyhood of deployment of HDTV in Europe is looking very positive, especially so in these past few months. The number of European homes that receive digital TV will grow from 47 million today, to 109 million in 2009 and about 14 million of them will receive broadcast HD programmed digital television.
European TV provider are also preparing for HDTV. Premiere, a German pay-TV provider and the French TPS satellite service have both confirmed their intention to launch their own high definition channels in 2005. Dominant UK supplier BSkyB should follow in 2006 and the British Broadcasting Corporation is already recording a proportion of its content in high definition format and intends produce all of it programming in high definition by 2010.

The prognosis for the deployment of HDTV in Europe has improved considerably in the last few months, according to Ian Weightman, senior vice president at IMS. "We are forecasting that the number of European homes receiving digital TV will grow from around 47 million today, to 108 million in 2009," Weightman said in a statement. "In 2009, we predict that almost 14 million of these digital TV households will be receiving broadcast HD programming, which would represent around 7% of all European homes with a TV." |
What great future prospects. HDTV, HD-DVD and Blu-ray are on the way to enter the market and we are the people that can help these technologies to become popular and widely accepted. I think I'll be one little part of these 7 percent, or will it be more then 7 percent? When we look how fast current formats like DVD have become an essential part of the entertainment electronics, I wouldn't be surprised if there are much more than 7 percent watching HDTV in 2009.
