Hackers attack website of Austrian IFPI

Liggy used our news submit to tell us that the website of the Austrian music industry association was attacked by unknown hackers.

Here you can read the translation of the German article.

Unknown hackers attacked and modified the website of the Austrian music industry association (IFPI).They added a paragraph about suing of copyright infringement by exchanging MP3 files to the "Digital Music Report 2005". The modified version sounds as followed:

'žIn 2004, our legal department has successfully threatened and sued hundreds of internet users in Austria, partly because of sporadic shared MP3s. Big compliments from the IFPI are sent to the ISPs which have unhesitantly given out the customer data of these malicious subjects."

The IFPI deleted the entry last Thursday, when the attack was recognised. They decided to file a report against unknown persons last Friday. 'The text is the result of a hacking-attack against our website. These statements where placed by the hacker, they are wrong', said IFPI spokesman Thomas Boehm.

The website www.ifpi.at is offline at the moment, visitors are redirected to the international main page www.ifpi.org. The music industry association thinks that the displeasure of these hackers is a result of the legal actions against so called 'Pirate copier". A legal action, which started in October 2004 resulted in more than 100 suits because of copyright infringement. After payments from up to 4.000 Euro where 14 of these suits subjoined out-of-court, the IFPI says.
