As many copy protections are currently beaten by commercially available software such as Alcohol 120%, CloneCD and Blindwrite there is still one copy protection that remains a secret. While the protection is used on CDs available for many years, still nobody has managed to make a 1:1 backup of the Playstation CDs (without ModChip or BootCD or additional hardware).
While the CDs are still pretty expensive and there is still a demand from users to backup Playstation games with their CD-RW drive, this is not only a quest to make backups, but also a technical challenge. Of course there is no doubt that the CD-RW drive that is able to make the backups will increase in sales.
But of course at the CD Freaks forums, there are people investigating the protection and it seems they have finally found out how the protection works. Of course this is only step one. The next step is to find a way to bypass the protection and burn a backup to CD-R without the need of a Boot-CD or Mod Chip!

Oh Man, I would never mentioned that this near 10 year old CD Protection is still such a hard nut for our newest CD-Writers and after all because of the Modchips REALLY not worth to hang in there. So I have to repeat my state-
ment: If I don't find really very new and good Insider-Infos about this "Mastermind" Protection I can't and won't continue with this "Selfboot-Project". Sorry.
They are now desperately seeking for help, so if there are any technical people that are reading this and think they can contribute to the Playstation protection discussion, feel free to read the thread and join the discussion.
Need are people that confirm that the way described in the forums is the way the protection works, and people who have ideas to make this possible with software/firmware/CD-R solutions (no software/hardware modifications!).
