agomes used our news submit to tell us that the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) is preparing a new vague of letters to sue portuguese illegal music downloaders. With charges reaching a maximum of 5000€, the IFPI wants to discourage users from downloading illegal content from the internet.

I can confirm this IFPI action is having a huge impact in Portugal. When I told my university colleagues about this, most of them were determinated to stop their downloads, in order to avoid the charges. This campaign is aimed to scary users, serving as an example to the others, and it's being advertised throught the national media - including newspapers, magazines, radio stations and television. It seems like the RIAA actions are working...
