ISPs are frustrated and buckle under pressure to uphold law

ISPs are under huge pressure from movie studios to take down copyright infringing material, and as the pressure grows the ISPs request immunity from prosecution in case they are found indirectly responsible for infringements. ZDNet news said:

Some ISPs can tell which movie is about to be released just by looking at the complaints they receive from the studios. As the problem grows, ISPs are seeking immunity from prosecution.

Internet service providers (ISPs) are reporting rapidly increasing incidences of take-down notices for copyright infringement material, in contrast to a diminishing number of requests to remove defamatory material from sites they host.

It seems that there is more pressure to remove pirated materials then there is defamatory remarks etc. It seems that removing the content themselves may cause them to be liable too. You can read more on this at ZDNet or come to the CDFReaks Living room to discuss legal matters.
