I/OMagic launches 52X CD-RW drive with embedded media reader

In a press release the
I/OMagic corporation has announced the first ever internal CD-recorder with a
built-in 7-n-1 Media Card Reader. The drive, supporting 52x read and write
speeds and 32x re-writing, will have an introductory price point of just $
79.99:

"The 52x32x52 CD-RW with 7-n-1 Media Card Reader is different.
There is no other drive on the market that combines an internal CD-RW
drive with a 7-n-1 media card reader," said Tony Andrews, vice president
of Engineering and Product Development for I/OMagic Corp. "And it is the
perfect solution for a crowded desktop. It uses less space, it's lightning
fast, it easily stores digital photographs and backs up audio and video
files."

The 52x32x52 CD-RW with 7-n-1 Media Card
Reader writes CD-R media at 52x and CD-RW at 32x, and reads CDs at up to
52x speeds and includes automatic media selection for CD, CD-R and CD-RW.
The 7-n-1 card reader supports Compact Flash (CF), IBM Micro Drive,
Multimedia Card (MMC), Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick (MS), Memory
Stick PRO, and Smart Media (SM). The drive is Windows XP, 2000, Me and
98SE Plug 'n Play compatible and uses a USB connection on the user's
motherboard.

The 52x32x52 CD-RW with 7-n-1 Media Card
Reader also comes with mastering software that allows users to create MP3,
audio, video and data CDs.

According to the press release
the new I/OMagic internal drive with built-in Media Card Reader
will begin shipping in September of this year. What do you think about these
kind of developments? Recording speeds will not get any faster and thus
manufacturers need to look at new ways to improve their
products.
