I/OMagic has send out
a press release in which they
announce a new 4x dual-format DVD-recorder. The drive supports 4x recording to
both DVD-R and DVD+R media and when it comes to re-writing the drive
supports 2x DVD-RW and 2.4x DVD+RW recording, speeds we've also seen
on other new drives:
The internal DVD +/-RW/+/-R Dual Format 4x DVD
Rewritable Drive is available in a beige or black bezel design and is the
latest advancement in DVD burning technology. It also includes Pinnacle
System's award-winning Studio SE, Expression and Instant CD/DVD software,
and new CD burning technology that increases storage capacity giving users
up to 1.4GB of storage space on standard CD-R, double the normal storage
capacity of a CD-R.
"This is just the first in a series of new dual drives
for I/OMagic. It makes sense to offer drives that are compatible with a
broad variety of media and players, and combine the best technologies into
one drive," said Tony Andrews, vice president of Engineering and Product
Development for I/OMagic Corporation. "With our new dual format drives,
users no longer have to worry about what type of media to buy or the
differences between plus and minus rewritable
technologies."
The internal DVD +/-RW/+/-R Dual Format 4x DVD
Rewritable Drive features Pinnacle System's award-winning Studio SE,
Expression, and Instant CD/DVD software which allows for the creation of
DVD movies that can be played on home DVD players, authoring tools for
data management and disk creation, as well as fun and easy ways to share
digital photos on CD or DVD. Operating systems supported are Windows
XP/2000/Me and 98 SE. |
The technique to double the capacity of a standard CD-R disc can
also be found on the Sanyo CRD-BPDV2 DVD-recorder which we reviewed
here. During our review we weren't very impressed
by the technique so let's hope I/OMagic's drive performs better. According to
the press
release the new I/OMagic DVD-recorder will have an introductory
price of $ 229.
