In the UK another professional pirate has been caught. The police found a computer with CD-RW drives and they seized a collection of 300 MP3 CD's, 300 videos CD's and also they found evidence that this person was selling and trading the CD's.
The suspect will now be reported for consideration of a criminal prosecution under the 1994 Trademarks Act, which carries the possibility of a custodial sentence from the Courts as well as a maximum penalty of ten years imprisonment. |
David Martin, BPI Director of Anti-Piracy, stated, "This suspect was clearly running a significant underground operation from his home; he had stacks of blank CDs with extensive compilation lists and CD masters containing thousands of illegally copied tracks.
Although this trader was operating on the quiet, trading by word of mouth, this raid demonstrates that these types of illegal dealers run a high risk of being detected, arrested, prosecuted and convicted. I am grateful for the assistance of Oldham Trading Standards and the Greater Manchester Police Officers."
This time they even used undercover agents to track the pirate and the pirate was reported by a Copyright Hotline. Read the entire article here.
