How do I get my burnt DVDs to read faster? What is this all about? Burnt DVD discs (+R/-R/+RW/-RW) are generally read at a slower speed than most other discs. The reason is that these discs have less reflectivity than normal pressed discs, and they oftentimes contain more errors. All drives are programmed to slow down when reading these discs. For example, on the LTC-48161H, the maximum DVD read speed is 16x CAV, but the maximum read speed for a burned DVD disc is only 8x CAV. Some feel that these precautions are unnecessary, as many have been able to get their burnt discs to read smoothly at speeds of 16x CAV by using bitsetting to fool their drive into thinking that it"s a pressed disc. Although reading at the full 16x CAV may cause problems in many cases, it"s also possible to balance stability and speed by choosing an intermediate speed such as 12x CAV or 14x CAV.
