Kingston is known for their memory products and announced the release of their first FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) validated USB drive through a press release. The DataTraveler Blackbox ships immediately in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities. To gain FIPS-validation you need to go through a bureaucratic process and need to meet requirements set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Gaining this validation means a moment of joy for Kingston.
"We are very excited that our DataTraveler BlackBox met all federal
requirements established by the National Institute of Standards and
Technology," said Mark Akoubian, Flash memory product manager of
Kingston. Akoubian believes that this certification proves that the BlackBox is a good product and protects your data when it's stored and transported.
The DataTravel BlackBox features 256-bit AES encryption via a dedicated processor. The processor automatically encrypts and decrypts data and the drive locks down after ten consecutive failed password attempts.
