Kiss DP-450 Divx player first device to support Ogg Vorbis

KiSS is a Danish company and was the first company that announced and released a standalone DVD player that also included DivX support. The device priced at 500 EURO will however with a firmware update now also support the lossy audio compression codec Ogg Vorbis. This open-source compressed audio format is gaining more and more populairty and a codec is standard included with Winamp one of the most used media players.

The codec is open-source and hardware/software developers don't need to purchase any license to use the technology in their devices. The new firmware should be available tomorrow (18-12-2002) and will also add support for Pal-DVDs.

Badly translated with Babelfish from German:

Advantage Denmark is called it, if it concerns the DVD player with the most supported video and audio formats. The Kiss Dp-450 (500 euro, test in video 2/2003) (www.kiss technology.com) already in front away from the start with the support of the MPEG-4-basierten DivX 4 and 5 as well as Apple Quicktime 6 the nose had video codecs. Now the Danes put after: Starting from that 18. 12. 2002 are to be able to play the Kiss owing to new firmware (version 2.53) also audio data in the datareduced Vorbis format (www.vorbis.com) - as the first hardware playing equipment for this standard at all.
