CD-R Labs have taken a look at LG's newest drive, the LG GCE-8400B. It is the first 40X writer to officially support P-CAV writing technology. Here is a summary of what CD-R labs have to say:
 The GCE-8400B is hands down the fastest writer currently available. Thanks to its P-CAV writing technology, the GCE-8400B was more than 20 seconds faster than the 40x writers from Lite-On, TEAC and Plextor. When you consider the fact that most 40x writers are only about a minute faster than those with 24x writing speeds, a 20 second improvement is very good. These speeds don't come without a price though. Media that worked fine at 40x with other drives would not always write at 40x with the GCE-8400B. However, LG's new drive is still faster than most 40x writers when writing at 32x! |

Make sure that you check this drive out when considering buying a new CD-RW, with an average writespeed of 33,43X it is easily faster than any other 40X writer we have seen, including Lite-On LTR-40125S with the unofficial ZS0D firmware that also allows P-CAV writing.
