The Korean companies LG and Samsung which are currently producing DVD Multi (DVD-R/RW/RAM) and DVD-R/RAM drives consider making DVD+R/RW drives too according to The Electronic Times Internet.
"As major customers favor DVD+RW mode, we have no choice but to respond to them," said one source of LG Electronics. "Large optical storage companies of the world are developing three standards." |
Samsung Electronics, which is to debut a multi-drive supporting DVD RAM and DVD-RW modes early next year, recently began to review the optical storage business supporting only DVD+RW and is going to finish the product development in the second half of 2003.
Since Sony's dual format writer has made a huge success it's probably only a question of time before someone announces the first triple format DVD±R/±RW/-RAM writer too.
