LG and Samsung to make DVD+RW writers?

The Korean companies LG and Samsung which are currently producing DVD Multi (DVD-R/RW/RAM) and DVD-R/RAM drives consider making DVD+R/RW drives too according to The Electronic Times Internet.

"As major customers favor DVD+RW mode, we have no choice but to respond to them," said one source of LG Electronics. "Large optical storage companies of the world are developing three standards."

Samsung Electronics, which is to debut a multi-drive supporting DVD RAM and DVD-RW modes early next year, recently began to review the optical storage business supporting only DVD+RW and is going to finish the product development in the second half of 2003.

Since Sony's dual format writer has made a huge success it's probably only a question of time before someone announces the first triple format DVD±R/±RW/-RAM writer too.
