LG releases its first standalone multi-format DVD DL recorder

LG has released its RH-7000 series, what they call the world's first multi-format standalone DVD recorder.  The RH7000 series consists of the RH-7521, RH-7823 and RH-7926 which feature 80GB, 160GB and 250GB HDD's respectively.  These all support DVD+R DL recording, playing back HDD content whilst recording, DivX playback, audio-only recording (inc. Microphone and other sources) and feature a height of just 49mm.

The RH-7926 features up to 345 of recording and a HDMI interface to provide a digital connection consisting of both uncompressed secure audio and video directly to the display. Both the RH-7823 and RH-7926 feature an 8-in-1 memory card reader to display photos or listen to music.  Finally, the RH7823 features a front DV input port to digitally transfer content from a DV camcorder to the recorder.

The latest LG RH7000 Series DVD recorders are the most advanced and slimmest models with a wide array of desirable functions and features. The RH-7521, RH-7823 and RH-7926 are compatible with most formats and provide users with greater ease in connection and viewing clearer images, including, home movies.

The new RH-7521, RH-7823 and RH-7926 boast a clever new innovation -- double layer recording. Using this technology, users can store the capacity of a double-layer DVD disc on one disc. The RH Series are also equipped with the option of simultaneous play and record so that users can watch the earlier part of the TV show they have been recording in the hard disk drive (HDD), while the recording continues.

The new LG DVD recorders also support Digital Internet Video Express (DivX). This is a new technology that allows compressing images or videos in a CD with DVD quality, making it an alternative to DVD. With the new LG DVD recorders, users can watch the latest movies downloaded from the Internet not only on their computer monitor but on their big TV screens as well.

It is nice to see the addition of DVD+R DL support, especially since there are quite a number of movies that are too long to record in standard quality (most DVD recorders half the horizontal pixels to 352 for extended playtime).  Then again, with high pricing on DVD+R DL media and no rewritable equivalent, this will only likely be used by those who can afford the media or who need to store a lengthy recording at the highest possible quality.
