LGE introduces 18x 'Super-Multi' DVD burner into Taiwan market

GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us about an announcement reported at DigiTimes this morning, indicating a new,
LG Super-Multi drive is on it's way to the Taiwan market. The Super-multi GSA-H22N writer, features the newer 18x DVD writing speed, along with DVD-RAM capabilities. It looks like this is the trend now for DVD burners, to continue to push the envelope so to speak, with even 20x burners planned. SATA burners are also on the LG production agenda it seems, as they intend to start shipping these in the coming months as well.

Positioning the 18x DVD burner as a mainstream product, the company aims to grab 20% of the Taiwan market, according to LG Electronics Taiwan Taipei (LGETT).

According to Kira Kuribayashi, senior engineer of Hitachi-LG Data Storage, the 18x DVD burner will be aggressively promoted in Taiwan. Although rival Lite-On IT plans to launch 20x DVD burner soon, HLDS has no plans focused on the 20x segment at the moment, Kuribayashi said.
