According to a news published at ZDnet India, an analyst predicts that laser diode market will double by 2012. The new optical technologies using blue-violet lasers will increase diode demands leading to high-volume production in near future.
It is reasonable to predict a growth in laser diode market, but we should still keep in mind that this is not the only emerging technology for data storage. If in the meantime flash memory or holographic technologies will develop more reliable and cost-effective ways to store data, I think that Blu-ray and HD-DVD will become obsolete very soon.
