A few weeks ago we presented you with our review of the latest Plextor drive, the PX-W4824A. Since yesterday we can find a new review of this high-speed drive at HardwareZone.com.
The Plextor PX-W4824TA is the successor to the PX-W4012TA and is based on a 48x-write, 24x-rewrite and 48x-read terminology. Last month, we managed to sneak an exclusive preview of the PlexWriter PX-W4824TA from Plextor. The initial benchmarks we ran on the PX-W4824TA didn't really leave much of an impression in our minds. Then again, those tests were done on an engineering sample of the PlexWriter. Today, we'll take a look at the retail version of the PlexWriter PX-W4824TA that uses the 1.00 firmware as compared to version 0.EB used in our engineering sample unit. |
The Plextor PlexWriter PX-W4824TA's is perhaps Plextor's best drive (in terms of performance and technology) to date since the classic Plextor 12x10x32x drive. Plextor's stand on quality writing means that it will never have super fast writing performance seen in drives using the LITE-ON engine. But with the proper media used, the PX-W4824TA epitomized the best combination in quality writing and performance. Plextor users should refer to the website here for a list of media supported by the PX-W4824TA. Combined that with excellent CD-ROM and DAE performance, it is hard to not like this PlexWriter - or so it seems.
