Lite-On IT first Taiwan maker to produce HDD+DVD recorder

Lite-On IT will begin volume production of its DVD recorder with a 40-120GB built-in hard drive at the end of July. The company will be the first Taiwanese optical disc drive manufacturer to ship HDD+DVD recorders in volume.

According to the article, we see again that
the DVD is taking over the tasks that were once dominated by the VCR.
Taiwanese makers claim HDD+DVD recorder demand is growing faster than even the
demand for DVD recorders. The sales of HDD+DVD recorders as a percentage of all
DVD recorder models more than doubled from 30 percent levels seen the last
half of 2003 to around 60%-70% of the market now in
Japan.
