Lite-On IT: global ODD competition will moderate this year

pipemanid used our news submit to tell us about this article published at DigiTimes. According to a top representitive from LiteOn, Japan has successfully forced out all of Taiwans second tier manufacturers with competitive pricing during 2004. In fact, almost all of China's makers have bitten the dust! This will lead to a moderation in the price wars for the foreseeable future. This is according to LiteOn IT president Danny Laio where at a press conference Friday, he said the next thing he expects is to see the Japanese players reduce their own production and rely on OEMs instead.

Laio went on to offer this tidbit of interesting information to further back up his statement. He says NEC, Pioneer and Matsushita Electric (Panasonic), can be expected to continue focusing heavily on the next gen Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats and this will contribute in a drop in production from them as well.
