Lite-On IT may offer Super multi drives with 16x DVD RAM

From the better late than never department (this news is now a few days old thanks to me) we would like to direct your attention to this tidbit over at DigiTimes. Looks like Lite-On may come up with a super multi drive that would be fun to have and experiment with. Especially if you had some RAM media that could keep up with the laser on this thing.

Lite-On IT plans to raise the speed of the RAM (random access memory) format for Super Multi DVD burners from the current 5x to 16x with production to begin in the third quarter of this year at the earliest, according to the company.

The burning (writing) speeds of RAM currently range from 1x to 5x with LG showcasing Super Multi DVD burners with a RAM speed of 12x at the ongoing CES (Consumer Electronics Show), Lite-On IT noted. Lite-On IT plans to skip 12x and develop the maximum 16x speed for the RAM format, the company emphasized.

Lite-On IT hopes to increase the speed of the RAM (random access memory) on their multi burners from the current 5x to 16x by the third quarter of this year at the earliest. In addition to this news, the article went on to say that Lite-On is looking to speed up LightScribe and even ask R&D to focus on increasing the burning speed of DVD+R/R DL.
