Lite-On LTR-40125S: Will support P-CAV writing and Mt.Rainier?

A person that goes under the nickname Jaywalker send us these new pics from a Lite-On LTR40125S drive with ZS0D firmware.

This is what he mentions is new in this firmware version:

  • Improved playability performance
  • P-CAV Writing supported
  • Improved production test code
  • Mount Rainier supported

Here is a shot from Nero Info tool showing that the drive now supports Mount Rainier:

And here is a shot from Nero CD-Speed showing that it now supports P-CAV writing technology:

As you can see this improves the overall write speed quite a bit and it is even faster than the previously fastest 40X recorder, the TEAC CD-W540E that we reviewed here.

But we noticed that it now starts writing at below 19X compared to 20X before with Zone-CLV. If it still started writing at 20X and used Partial-CAV writing technology the drive would have been a real killer drive and would maybe have reached around 33X as the average writespeed!!!

But on the other side lowering the rotation speed slightly may give less noise and vibrations, as well as better writing quality and better compatibility with low quality CD-R discs.

Note that this information has not been verified by CD-Freaks and that nobody here at CDFreaks.com could provide you with this firmware version so please do not ask us for it. Let us hope that Lite-On will release it to the public soon
